Since 2015, the Government has been focused on Canadians, and on the thingspeople need to build a betterfuture for themselves and their families. In that time, working together, we’ve made a lot of progress.
This fall, Canadians went to the polls. And they returned a minority Parliament to Ottawa. This is the will of the people, and you have been chosen to act on it. And so we open this 43rd Parliament with a call for unity in the pursuit of common goals and aspirations.
Nearly four years ago, Canadians helped us build a plan for real change. It was a plan that would invest in the things that matter most: good, well-paying jobs for the middle class and people working hard to join it; more help for families struggling with the high cost of living; strong, connected communities; and better opportunities for our children and grandchildren.
Over the past two years, the Government has invested in Canadians, and in the things that matter most to Canadians. These investments reflected the choice to reject austerity policies and instead invest wisely in strengthening the middle class and growing the economy.
The Canada we know today is the result of the creativity, sacrifice and hard work of its people. At the centre of the Canadian story is the middle class and the promise of progress: that with optimism and hard work, a better life is possible for everyone.
